Mutoni's Journey: Finding Her Voice and a Place to Grow

At just five years old, Mutoni is our youngest student. Her journey began when her mother joined our sewing cooperative, eager to learn skills that would allow her to better care for her daughter. But with no affordable childcare, Mutoni had to accompany her mother to class, where boredom often led to disruptions, frustrating the other students trying to concentrate.

Because Mutoni is nonverbal, regular schools could not accept her. But at our Ability Center, everything changed. Alongside her classmates Kenny and Elizabeth, she has found a place where she can learn at her own pace. Teacher Alice is patiently helping her communicate in new ways—teaching her to use pictures and gestures to express her needs instead of resorting to tears and tantrums. This new approach is giving her the tools to interact with her family and the wider community. She adores Kenny, following him around and mimicking his actions, and one of her first spoken words—"Ka"—is her way of calling his name!

Now, Mutoni and her friends need YOUR help!

Right now, our students and teachers are studying on an open porch, completely exposed to the elements. With her weakened immune system, Mutoni is often sick, making learning even more challenging. We are raising funds to build a safe, enclosed school building and a perimeter fence to protect our students and provide them with the environment they deserve.

This is your chance to be part of a life-changing movement. By supporting this project, you are giving children like Mutoni the opportunity to grow, thrive, and be seen—not as burdens, but as bright, capable individuals with something to offer the world.

Join us today and help build a future where every child has a place to belong.
