Sew on and sew forth

May 2024 Newsletter

Dear Friends of Living Channel

This has been an exciting year so far.  In January we were able to open our sewing coop in Kayonza and start our first class with 11 students.  In March we added 8 additional students and one paying student bringing the total to 19.  Our first class is almost ready to graduate, and they are doing amazing work.  They have learned to make their own patterns and sew shirts, skirts and dresses.

The coop will be making clothes and bags to sell here in Canada and in Rwanda. If you would like to support the ladies by purchasing a jacket or shopping bag they will be available to order in our store.  Pictures coming soon.

To allow the ladies to work full time they will need child care for their children.  We are seeking for sponsors to support each child.  Sponsorship of $49/month will provide childcare, rehabilitation and education as appropriate for each child.

You will receive a picture of your child and their mother, progress reports 3 times a year, and the opportunity to send emailed letters of encouragement.  Won’t you sponsor a child today?

We are in the process of fundraising for an expanded Ability Center and Sewing Coop that would provide ongoing care, education, and rehab for the children, with respite, job training and counselling for their parents. If you would like more information, click here.

An exciting update on our school will be coming in next month’s newsletter, you won’t want to miss it!
