Music, Movement, and Magic — A Day of Performance

“One Hour, One Song, A Lifetime of Impact”

Wednesday was our final day of classes, and we wanted it to end with joy, creativity, and connection. The theme was simple but powerful: take a song or dance and modify it to teach a lesson. Add movements to make it memorable. Then, perform it with the children.

Each group of teachers had less than an hour to prepare their lesson and teach it to a mixed group of typical and special needs children. It was a tall order—but what happened next was nothing short of magical.

The performances began, and one by one, each group took the stage. The children sang, danced, and moved with enthusiasm. Some had more skill than others, naturally—but every single child was included. That was the real victory.

We saw children with disabilities confidently participating alongside their peers. Teachers guided them gently, celebrated their efforts, and made sure no one was left out. The joy on the children’s faces was radiant. They weren’t just performing—they were shining.

One group used a traditional Rwandan song and added hand motions to teach counting. Another used a dance to reinforce the alphabet. The creativity was inspiring, but even more moving was the way the children responded. They were engaged, excited, and proud.

This day wasn’t just about music. It was about inclusion. It was about showing that every child can learn, participate, and contribute when given the right support. It was about breaking down barriers and building bridges—through rhythm, movement, and love.

And perhaps most beautifully, the children from our school were accepted by the other children. They danced together, laughed together, and learned together. Just maybe, those other children took their first steps toward understanding and inclusion.

What would our classrooms look like if joy and inclusion were the foundation of every lesson?

We believe in the power of inclusive education—and we’re working to make it a reality. If you’d like to support our mission or join our team, please reach out to us at livingchannel@gmail.com. Together, we can create classrooms where every child belongs.
